This lifeform is found from Baja California north towards Alaska. This lifeform is marine and found only in salt water. This lifeform is locally common in suitable environments.

The butter clam (Saxidomus nuttallii) is found from Humboldt Bay south to Baja California. This is an important commercial food species. However, some examples can be poisonous.

Clams (Order Veneroida) contain shells with two equal valves.
