This lifeform is found north of the Mason Dixon line in North America. The green color will help identify this lifeform.

There are numerous species of thread algae. This species has not been identified.

Green Algae Subgroup (Chlorophyceae) has over 6,000 different  species. Included in this category are the thread-like freshwater  algae in the genus Spirogyra that can be found attached to rocks  in almost any freshwater body in North America. In stagnant water they also form colonies that float on the surface.

Green Algae Group (Chlorophyta) is usually broken into three main categories: Charophyceae, typical Chlorophyceae, and  Euglenophyceae. The Euglenophyceae can also be placed as a separate group in that they contain animal-like features. They are placed here in a separate class as opposed to making them one of the three subgroups of green algae.

Protista kingdom (sometimes spelled as Protoctista) contains numerous phyla including unicellular animals and algae.
